Define the result before opening a product
A usable question bank contains the intended questions and answers. A usable team assessment also needs the right participants, clear timing and an export that reconciles with real submissions. Compare those delivered results rather than counting feature labels.
This guide uses a fictional English training pilot: twelve questions, two employee participants and an administrator. The downloadable pilot includes the source rules and expected answers. Keep the meaning of those questions constant, but adapt their container to each product's supported format.
Competitor descriptions below come from official documentation checked on October 18, 2026. We have not executed this pilot inside competitor accounts. The matrix describes documented entry points; the acceptance checks are a method for your trial, not a published benchmark.
Separate file preparation from question accuracy
| Platform | Documented entry point | Check during the pilot |
|---|---|---|
| ClassMarker | CSV question templates, including updates with retained IDs | Record the Word-to-CSV preparation, correct answers and meaning after import |
| Testportal | Existing questions from Word/PDF/plain text, alongside AI generation | Select existing-question import, then inspect the answer key and unsupported formats |
| ProProfs Quiz Maker | Structured Word import with preview, plus AI import/generation | Use its required document structure and distinguish preserved questions from new ones |
| Zhixu | DOCX candidates, individual review and bank publication | Use the adapted English DOCX and check candidates before publishing a usable version |

The Zhixu DOCX is not a universal import file. Its fixed answer and explanation markers differ from ProProfs' document formatting and ClassMarker's CSV schema. Preserve a neutral source and record each transformation. Include that preparation time when evaluating the workflow.
For every imported question, compare the full stem, all options, answer identity and explanation with the source. Test single choice, multiple choice and a false statement separately. Equal question counts can hide changed meaning or a missing correct option. Keep a question with order-dependent wording out of shuffled practice until you have explicitly verified its behavior.
Examine correction and publication behavior
Preview and human review are available in competing workflows too. ProProfs explicitly documents an import preview, and Testportal asks authors to review the imported result. The useful comparison is whether your coordinator can find and correct a problem reliably.
In Zhixu, inspect candidates, repair or exclude uncertain items, publish the import and then publish the bank version used for practice or exams. Record which version your pilot uses. In each candidate platform, make one harmless correction and observe what happens to existing tests and prior results. Do not infer those rules from the presence of an Edit button.
Keep screenshots or notes for the changed question and the assessment that references it. If a platform's version behavior is unclear, ask the vendor before making a live correction. This guide does not establish that competing products lack version management.
Test identities, deadlines and retakes with two participants
Use fictional employee identifiers that stay strings, and confirm whether a participant must have an account, a controlled link or another access mechanism. Check that an unrelated identity cannot enter a restricted pilot. Confirm administrator permissions separately from business job positions.
Set one short future window, a per-person duration and an answer-release policy. Write down the explicit timezone shown by each platform. Have each participant answer under their own identity. Check the deadline of an attempt that is already running before changing the overall window; extending availability and adding time to an existing attempt are different requirements.
Run the intended retake method and record its relationship to the original result. In Zhixu, a specified roster does not automatically acquire a later hire when their job position changes. Check the final people list before publication and add participants only through the allowed management operation.
Reconcile exported evidence and integration permissions
Match the exported rows to actual submissions, including unanswered participants and the attempt used for the reported score. Testportal documents PDF, XLSX and CSV reports for business plans; see its report guide. ProProfs lists report exports in its Quiz Maker features. Verify the selected plan and the specific fields you need instead of assuming that a format name proves archival completeness.
Integration needs deserve their own trial. ClassMarker's API covers results, access and question operations. Testportal documents an API extension for MAX Customized. ProProfs lists API and enterprise controls in its plan matrix. Confirm endpoint permissions and plan eligibility for your required workflow.
Zhixu's authorized API/MCP management uses the same organization and bank rules as Web. Important writes require preview and confirmation. AI manages preparation and authorized results; employees sit formal exams themselves. Follow the English AI walkthrough for that distinction. No conclusion about a competitor's MCP support follows merely from an API page.
Write a decision record with observable results
For each platform, record source preparation, questions checked, corrections, participant access, timing behavior, the retake result and the exported fields. Mark each requirement as demonstrated, failed or still unknown, and name the plan used. A feature found in documentation remains a documented claim until your trial demonstrates it.
Use the selection guide to decide which requirements matter, then compare the same scope in the cost worksheet. A good result may be keeping your current system, adopting Zhixu for private practice, or selecting a different assessment platform for capabilities your team requires.
